Caterers & food service businesses; how to improve your Google ranking

If you’re on a tight budget and you can’t afford to outsource your internet marketing work to an SEO freelancer or digital marketing agency there, are a few things that you can do yourself to improve the ranking of your food services website in the main search engines, even if your IT skills are quite basic.

Continuously increase the size of your website
Search engines like websites with lots of original content. Google, Yahoo and Bing will always look more favourably on a food distributor’s website that has twenty web pages of original content as apposed to a similar website that only has five pages. The main thing to remember when writing content (articles) is to be generous in your usage of keywords.

Example good usage of keywords:
Joe Smith Ltd is an established meat & poultry wholesaler that supplies quality meat products to restaurants, delicatessens and hotels in London and the surrounding Home Counties.

Example bad usage of keywords:
Joe Smith Ltd is an established meat wholesaler that supplies quality products to customers in London and the surrounding Home Counties.

As you can see the above “bad” example has failed to include the keywords poultry, restaurants, delicatessens and hotels.

The cheapest way to publish new content on your food website
Does your website have a content management system (CMS) this, is an administration area where you can login and perform site updates?

If you do have a CMS then your half way there; all you need to do is instruct a web designer to install an article publishing script. Once installed you can then easily create new web pages and publish/edit/delete articles on your website at the click of a button.

If your catering website does not have a content management system then you’re pretty much buggered and I advise you to get one. However if, your really on a tight budget you could install a word press extension to your website and use it as your article publishing script.
